Marketing Sustainability to Your Customers
Sustainability. For a lot of businesses in the East Metro, it’s something that comes naturally. A recent survey of Ramsey County businesses revealed that 90% of the businesses surveyed were doing at least some recycling. Being sustainable and recycling is the right thing to do for a lot of different reasons. Recycling can save your business money. It is a much better use of resources than putting everything into the trash. It’s better for the local economy, too. Plus, more and more, it’s what your customers want.
A recent study suggests that over 75% of US consumers feel better about buying from companies with sustainable business practices. The question is, how do you reach those customers with your business’s sustainability messages? Think about what your company has done, and continues to do, and start there.
- Are you recycling a majority of the waste your business produces?
- Does your business have a great organics recycling program to highlight?
- Have you gone out of your way to make sure that you offer reusable items?
- Is your packaging made from recycled materials, and is it recyclable?
- Do you have a dedicated “Green Team” that is always working on sustainability initiatives?
These are all things that can set your business apart. Take some time to highlight what you are doing on your social media channels. Encourage your customers to do the same! A picture is worth 1,000 words, or so they say, so share some photos of your recycling or other cool sustainability initiatives. Remember to include a section about your sustainable business practices on your website. It’s OK to brag a little!
