The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades – District 82 (IUPAT-82) reached out to BizRecycling for assistance in becoming compliant with the 2016 Minnesota recycling law.
They had already been planning to add a single-sort recycling service, but wanted to find more ways to recycle better.
How We Helped
Our Recycling Experts visited IUPAT-82 to learn about the business and take a look at the types of waste they were producing. In addition to the regular recyclables which would be taken care of with a single-sort recycling service, the Recycling Expert found other recycling opportunities. They offered recommendations for recycling pallets and plastic film.
The Recycling Expert recommended purchasing color-coded bins and labels to match the specific recycling and waste streams. They helped IUPAT-82 to apply for a BizRecycling Grant. The grant paid to purchase 120 new color-coded bins and matching signs for the facility.
The assistance from BizRecycling helped IUPAT-82 accomplish more than they had hoped. Not only are they compliant with state law, but they have seriously reduced their waste. With the improved recycling plan, they went from having trash picked up every week to having it picked up twice a month. They are recycling an estimated 28,912 pounds of material annually.
They told us, “When this started, we had no recycling program at all. This has been a huge chance for our organization. It was an easy process to get started. The people that I worked with at BizRecycling were very helpful with the grant process and ordering containers for our building. Overall, I think the program has been very successful, and this has been long overdue for us.”
