Lutheran Church of the Resurrection have always practiced being stewards of the environment. The church offers an on-site community garden, captures rainwater for reuse, and encourages their congregation to use reusable mugs on Sundays during coffee hour.
The church knew they could do more to reduce their waste and improve their recycling programs. They contacted BizRecycling for help.
How We Helped
One of BizRecycling’s Recycling Experts visited Lutheran Church of the Resurrection to assess their current waste stream. They then were able to make recommendations for improvements.
With guidance from our Recycling Expert, the church decided to start an organics collection program. The Recycling Expert also recommended adding consistent, color-coded bins throughout the building.
Our Recycling Expert helped the church to apply for a BizRecycling Grant. The grant funded the purchase of standardized trash, recycling, and organics containers. They also bought a six-month supply of compostable bags. Funding also helped the congregation members to create a church-specific recycling poster.
Consistent signage and color-coded bins allowed the church to divert a large portion of their trash to recycling and organics. Lutheran Church of the Resurrection is diverting an estimated 3,090 pounds of organic material from the landfill and an additional 803 pounds of recycling annually.
